The motivation behind the foundation in Giri Tiruvuri’s words:
“Give something back to the society that gave you so much.”
““My brother and I cherished this dream for a long time before he passed away in year 2000. We both studied in Government schools and colleges all through education (including medicine and engineering respectively). And, we believe that the society paid for our education as much as our family did, if not more. And, to pay back to the society, we thought we must engage in some concerted activity that directly benefits the underprivileged. We specifically wanted to focus on rural India, given our background. My brother was doing that in his own little way while he was practicing medicine in our hometown, Amalapuram. A few months before he passed away, us two and a set of like-minded friends were thinking of starting a foundation that helps the poor and needy in different ways. At that time, we also visited a school in Anantapur District in AP and started funding it in a small way. The initiative got a jolt when I lost my brother few months later.
The dream got revived in 2007 and Dr.Raman foundation has come into existence (formally registered) in September 2007. The dream, vision and direction are now owned by a number of friends and well-wishers who are associated in various capacities – core leaders, members on the executive committee, advisors, ambassadors, volunteers and donors.”
