Suvidya Schools

The goal of SuVidya (Good Education) is to provide Su pplementary education ( Vidya ) for the under-privileged children of the slums in urban and semi-urban areas>>. The foundation's free SuVidya schools (evenings and holidays) provide both remedial education and bridge courses, with the twin goals of better performance and better enrollment of those kids in the regular schools in their neighborhood.

Under this project, an evening school is started in November 2007 in a slum area called Ajit Singh Nagar of Vijayawada. One of the executive committee members, PVN Krishna is helping run this school. There are currently over 120 students that go to this school in the evenings. Many of these students go to nearby Government schools. Their scholastic levels are so poor that some of the 4 th grade students cannot write Telugu Alphabet and numbers. After they have been to SuVidya, some of them are now topping their classes.

•  The foundation celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi and Suvidya's first anniversary on October 2, 2008. It was attended by dignitaries like the deputy mayor of Vijayawada and a very popular journalist, Padmasri Turlapati Kutumbarao. The Suvidya students gave splendid cultural performances like dances for patriotic songs and a skit. The foundation gained an excellent applause, support and involvement from the local community.

•  Our students won prizes in essay writing competitions conducted in Vijayawada on Bhagawat Gita and the life of Swami Vivekananda.
